Loneliness
Loneliness is a feeling shared,
With bodies, souls, and faces never near.
It is borne in those who dared
To live a life sincere.
Besides falseness nature does not know
A more haunting and disturbing veil.
One worn by those afraid to show
That in loneliness they cannot avail.
Yet those who travel that oft harsh road,
The one not trodden on,
Why must they carry a heavier load,
Than he who sloughs his soul to pawn?
And if it is true as is often said,
That within we carry treasures no words express,
Then why is it that no path is tread,
To my lonesome hearts redress?
Marching down your solemn path,
Gazing up at that empty starlit sky,
You must have thought in your wrath,
To ask one more simple why.
Why should I cherish what is me,
if there is no one to rejoice,
Who I dared and dreamed to be,
And that I did by choice?
