Narcissism and the Stars. If one ever begins to feel that one’s ego has grown too big, one must only look to the stars. The vastness of our universe is a constant reminder that no matter how much we may achieve excellence or perfection in this life, we are nothing in comparison. Our moment is incomprehensibly brief. A person ought to spend less time thinking about what they are and more time being what they are. The vastness of the universe is another aspect of its benevolence, as it frees us of the heaviness of our existence. It allows us to be relieved of the burden of living when one feels the need for such relief, yet the stars are sufficiently distant that they do not make us feel there is no importance at all to human affairs and the state of the world.
